Autodesk has launched Arnold 7.2.2, a feature release that brings faster interactive scene edits, rendering optimizations, better USD, MaterialX support, and many other user experience improvements with bug fixes.
What's New?
Improved Interactivity when Modifying Large Scenes
The new version improves responsiveness when interactively modifying large scenes. When editing lights or shaders in a scene with millions of instances, the first pixel is generated almost in real time, which greatly improves rendering speed. This improvement can make a big difference when rendering scenes using the point instancer in USD.
Improved Global Light Sampling Performance
In many cases, the efficiency of global light sampling with indirect lighting has been improved.
Reduced Numerical Precision Differences Across CPU Vendors
According to Autodesk, while images rendered on Intel, AMD, and Apple CPUs were already often perceptually equivalent, they have removed more precision-related differences so that even more results are now perceptually identical.
Reduced Noise from Mesh Lights in Volumes
When using mesh lights with very small triangles, the amount of noise in the volumes has now been greatly reduced.
