Following Jungle Cruise, Rodeo FX returns to the Disney universe with The Little Mermaid. Rodeo FX team delivered 259 shots and 136 assets, focusing on Ariel's friends, Sebastian the crab, Flounder the fish, and Scuttle the northern gannet.
To create lifelike CG animals, this requires being as faithful as possible to the real animals while evoking a variety of emotions and tics to support the voice actors. They carefully rendered each character's screen time through detailed rigs and in-shot animations, and also developed different ways to express emotions through pincers, extra legs and wings.
