The Annecy International Animation Film Festival, known as the Festival international du film d’animation d’Annecy in French, was established in 1960. It occurs annually at the start of June in the charming town of Annecy, France. With its more than 60-year history, the Festival has become a global event dedicated to animation and a top reference for animation. The 2024 edition of the Festival will be held from 9 - 15 June. During a full week, the event will bring together prominent figures from the animation industry to celebrate a rich variety of creative styles and techniques.
According to the Annecy Festival, for the 2024 edition, it has already received more than 2,600 films from a hundred countries. Recently, the Festival revealed its 2024 Official Selection: the short films and the graduation films in competition.
The 2024 Short Films Official Selection
From the 1,505 short films submitted by creators from 108 countries, the Annecy Festival Selection Committee meticulously selected 67 films representing 33 countries for the competition, and the shorts were divided into 4 categories as shown below:
- 31 in the Official category
- 12 in the Off-Limits category
- 16 in the Perspectives category
- 8 in the Young Audiences category

The 2024 Graduation Films Official Selection
This year, more than 1,194 Graduation Films were submitted, according to the Annecy Festival. Finally, about 40 shorts from 23 countries were shortlisted. Among this, France tops the list with 7 films from 6 schools.
In terms of making techniques, stop-motion animation and painting on glass are particularly well represented. Additionally, there were a handful of 3D animated films.
