Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, a superhero movie based on the Marvel Comics character Black Panther, was released in November 2022 and received a good response worldwide.
Cinesite team shares a breakdown reel of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Cinesite's London and Montreal studios worked with VFX supervisor Geoff Baumann, second unit supervisor Michael Ralla and VFX producer Nicole Rowley on nearly 400 visual effects shots. The London division delivered a single 10-minute sequence and Montreal delivered a series of sequences for the entire film. VFX supervisor was Ben White in London and Jennifer Meire in Montreal.
Wakanda Forever is set after the death of King T'Challa and the leaders of the kingdom of Wakanda struggle to protect their country from invasion. Cinesite said their contribution to the production was one of their largest deliveries to date for Marvel, and some of their most complex visual effects.

The aerial shots of Riri required complex visual effects and a range of techniques and methods. Sometimes it was necessary to add the practical suits that the actress wore in plate footage, while in other cases everything but the actress' face had to be replaced. They built the CG suit assets to a very high level of detail, which required very precise rotational animation to be able to add engine jets, smoke and heat haze, and any relighting or lighting interactions required for its components and surfaces.

The final helicopter crash required complex visual effects, which were created in close collaboration between the animation and FX teams. The timing of the crash had to be perfect, and the water simulation also had to be accurate to ensure the scale and impact of the shot were convincing. This was achieved by blending CG layers, from the ocean surface to white water particles to a layer of fine mist to complete the final turbulent look.
